In this latest series, Amber begins each piece with a grid—a mark-making system that ensures a balanced composition while also reflecting her experience as a triplet and her process of situating herself in the world. Marks are placed horizontally or vertically as she starts to build each painting, referencing the “ups, downs, and sideways” sensations of life’s journey. Using multiple brushes at once, she draws from her triplet experience and more broadly, the concept of being one among many. Finally, shapes are merged, introduced, or lost,  almost dissolving the grid entirely as the painting develops.
